“God Is Good All The Time”
Theme Verse:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28, NIV
Series Overview:
Life isn’t always fair, but God is always good. That’s one of the lessons Joseph learned from all the highs and lows he experienced in the book of Genesis. Joseph knew from personal experience that bad things sometimes happen to innocent people. After all, he was attacked by his own brothers, sold into slavery, imprisoned on false charges, and denied justice for years. But through it all, God had a plan for Joseph’s life.
Eventually, by the grace and providence of God, Joseph was brought out of prison and appointed as Pharaoh’s right-hand man. God placed him in that position so that he could prepare the nation of Egypt for a devastating famine that was only a few years away. In a twist of fate (or more accurately, an act of divine providence), the brothers who once left Joseph for dead now found themselves at his mercy. But instead of using his newfound power to exact vengeance, Joseph chose to bless them and forgive them in the name of the Lord. Even though Joseph’s life was full of unjust suffering, he eventually came to realize that God had a plan and a purpose through it all: “But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance… You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives” (Genesis 45:7; 50:20).
